One of the biggest reasons I hear from parents for not booking a family session is this
"my children wont behave"
I am a Mum myself and I do understand the worry. As parents we imagine our children needing to stand still and smile their nicest smile, with full cooperation whilst someone takes their time taking an image.
But here is the secret ....
Beautiful photographs with children have very little to do with perfect behaviour and sitting still!!
In fact, the moments parents often worry about the most are often the ones that create the most meaningful images.
LET GO OF PERFECTION
Children are not designed to stand still and smile on command and that is completely okay with me.
The goal of a family session, for me, isn't about perfection, it is about connection.
When we let go of the idea that everything needs to be neat, calm and perfectly posed, something much more special can happen. Parents relax which helps the children to relax and then the whole experience feels lighter.
Instead of trying to control the moment, simply let the moments unfold naturally.
Rather than asking children to look at the camera the whole time, I encourage families to focus on each other. The closer you are the more moments you will have unfold.
Hold hands.
Cuddle.
Walk together.
Whisper something silly.
Lift the little ones in the air and spin around.
Chase and run together.
Let them run to you for a hug.
Dance.
The simplest interactions create genuine emotion. Genuine emotion is what makes the photographs feel alive.
Often the most beautiful moments happen in the in-between seconds. The giggles, the cuddles, the way your child instinctively reaches for you.
Children are curious and connect through play.
When families laugh together, explore together and simple enjoy being in the moment, children stop worrying about the camera being on them. They just get to be themselves.
Playful moments are where the magic lives.
A burst of laughter.
Wind in their hair as they run.
A quiet cuddle after a little adventure.
These are the memories worth capturing.
My aim isn't to create a stiff, perfectly posed family portrait, it is to create photographs that feel like you.
Your family as it is right now.
The love, the chaos, the laughter, and the small quiet moments in between.
So if you are ever worried that your children wont behave during a session, please know that they don't need to. They just need to be themselves.
When you focus on connection, play, and enjoying your time together, the result is something far more meaningful than perfection.
Beautiful photographs that truly reflect your family.
No need to hesitate any longer.
